Empowering Kenyan women by constructing a greenhouse.
Gender roles, norms, and cultural practices have been a huge threat to the local women of Kyangala Village. The traditional cultural practices have singled women out, and therefore, most of them cannot participate in any local or international developments. Due to gender roles in the society, women have been left out in any form of leadership. To empower the local women of Kyangala Village, GLOW Foundation initiated a Greenhouse Project. The greenhouse, which is owned and controlled by the local women, produces staple vegetables which are then sold in local markets. The increased revenue to local women is helping to alleviate their reliance on subsistence farming and a male’s income for survival.
